Eyrbyggja Saga is a book from the 13th to 14th century recounting the oral history of Western Iceland from the 10th to 11th century. Among the Viking adventures, battles, and ghost stories is an interesting example of an auction-like mechanism: using modern game theory concepts, I find optimal strategies and compare them to the historical battle of wits between Snorri Thorgrimsson and his nemesis Bork the Thick.
